I have always had to by past the St. John's going up and down the ICW. Hoping this coming summer to explore it shores. Can you enter the river and proceed south and follow any canals or waterways and reenter the ICW further south. ?? Thank You.

The St. John's river runs south to north. It is only accessible from the outflow at the northern end and ends at Lake Monroe. We have gone "up" the river until we reached Palatka. Nice town, very friendly and "Old Florida". Beautiful park you can walk, bicycle or drive thru. You can go further to Lake George and finally Lake Monroe. Depending on your draft there are several areas that you can access parks with beautiful springs for swimming and picnicking. If draft is too deep you can anchor and dinghy in. Enjoyed our trip very much and will go beyond Palatka next time. We had rented a car and visited parks and the springs.
