Anchor Type

Postby astrouse » Fri Nov 01, 2013 3:56 pm

I am looking to replace my CQR anchor of my Heritage 47 Classic. I had a Rocna anchor on a previous boat and loved it. That type of anchor, with a roll bar, cannot fit on the bowsprit. I'm looking at a Spade (66 pound) or Quickline Ultra (60 or 77 pound)anchor but I'm not sure how they will adapt to the bow. Does anyone have experience with either of these anchors?

I have a Heritage 47EU and I have the same issue as you do (Rocna won't fit because of the bowsprit). I currently have a 60 pound CQR on my boat which I consider to be too small but I am limited by the shaft length of the anchor from the anchor rollers (a heavier CQR has a longer shaft). I am looking for a short-shaft anchor in the 75-85 pound range so if anyone has any ideas on this I would certainly love to hear them!

I believe Rocna have an anchor design with no roll bar that receives good reviews. No personal experience however.

Replaced the 45 lb. CQR on our 1997 46 Classic with a 33 Kg. / 73 lb. Vulcan (Rocna) in 2015. Holding has been great and fits very securely on the 2 rollers. Due to the weight of the Vulcan and the 400 ft of 3/8 chain, the secondary anchor went to the lazarette. Dave

The Spade is reputed to be an excellent anchor. More expensive than the Rocna but no rollbar.
