Diesel Fuel Stink

Postby Jastafford » Fri Feb 08, 2019 9:45 am

I splashed diesel fuel on my jacket the other day. Tried washing but it still smells. Any tricks out there to get rid of the smell?

Try soaking the jacket in Dawn Dishwashing Soap and water for at least a couple of hours, rinse completely. If not completely gone, repeat before normal washing. Reoccurring issue in this household due to boat, tractor and bulldozer.

Thanks Bill, I will give Dawn a try. I had somebody else suggest a product called Skout's Honor. It'd designed for cat urine but they say it works on about anything.

I'm not familiar with Skout's Honor. If you try it, please let us know. Some things alway work better than others. I'm always looking for a better solution.

Pet shops sell a detergent for "pet accidents" I've used this in the past to remove the smell of diesel.
You'll have to go and look for something similar as I'm in the Uk.

I always kept a gallon of Citrasol or Citra-Solv around to clean up, scrub and/or splash into the bilge. It masks the diesel odor while providing a pleasant citrus smell throughout the boat. It's also good at removing the remaining adhesive residue when removing stickers. :)
Good luck,
