GPS Locator for Windows 10

Postby 136GB4me » Sun Apr 22, 2018 10:59 am

Reaching out to the group on a question regarding using a WIndows 10 laptop and Navionics.
My wife and I will be chartering a 36 GB Classic this summer. I plan on purchasing Navionics for my WIndows 10 laptop. The issue I have is that the laptop will need a portable external GPS locator.
Does anyone know of a good GPS locator device that plugs into the USB port, as well as works with the Navionics program?

Thanks Everyone

As a third back up to my navigation I have a "GNS1000 GPS receiver" it uses Bluetooth to connect to my computer.
I'm sure that it or something very similar will be available in the States. It was purchased from an aeronautical supplier.
Hope this helps

Tom.
Ps it runs on my iPad and iPhone.

GlobalSAT BU-353-S4 is what I use. It works quite well, never had a problem picking up the satellites. Cost about $30.00.

I also use the GlobalSAT unit Tom references. It was recommended by the navigation software I use. Have used one for several years and it has worked flawlessly—fast acquisition of satellites and quite accurate. It has had a hard time sometimes under our covered slip roof (metal), but once we are out, it is great. I place it on the forward window sill when at the lower helm. And being in the brokerage business, I like it as I can take if from boat to boat with my laptop and navigate completely independently from whatever system is on the boat I am moving.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
I'll have a look into the GlobalSAT and see if it will work with Windows 10 and Navionics.
Fingers crossed.
