app recommendations

A good place to post & find information on miscellaneous stuff

I have Verizon wireless on my phone and ATT on my iPad.

I have never activated the ATT on the iPad, since the GPS works without data activation, and I don't want to pay more than I have to pay.

Over here that is referred to as a hot spot but I believe you are still reliant on either a Cellular or Wi fi signal - My I pad has its own GPS that allows for using a programme such as Navionics without the need for a cellular or Wi fi signal albeit I have only tried this in Coastal waters

I have an Ipad 2 with Navionics, works well BIG screen at much less $$ than simailar size chartplotter. great for old eyes!

fun to travel by plane and enter in Mexican Resturant and watch the screen go nuts at 300kt over ground!

I find my iPad is one of the most useful tools I have when cruising. My favorite boating apps are iNavX,Active Captain, TideGraph, and Boat US. Acrobat reader is great for cruise logs, and I have all my manuals ( Lehman, Onan , and electronics saved there.I also have bookmarked the NOAA weather site and any marina's website that I intend to use on the trip.

I don't have the cellular model but I use a Dual bluetooth GPS for navigation and my iPhone hotspot for internet while on the water.

Ram makes a great mount that folds out of the way when not in use.

Have fun with your new toy.
