82GBMY - Garmin 4212 No Depth reading

Postby kurt.reynolds » Sun Apr 28, 2019 5:21 pm

Took our 1982 GB Motoryacht out yesterday for first run of the season.

As soon as I powered up the Garmin on the Flying Bridge, no depth reading. ---.-Ft

Honestly, I don't know if it has it's own transducer or gets fed from somewhere else. But anyway....

I am down in the ER (single lehman) on the stbd side of the engine there is a transducer. Looks about the size of a can of corn only half as high. The cover is cocked and I can see a tapered transducer inside that is just loose.

I assume this is my problem, but am not sure how to "bed" the transducer to the hull, looks like to me it was just sitting in there, I would have expected different.

Anyway, looking for some basic steps to start the troubleshooting. Also looking for a simple way to install a "backup" depth sounder.

Thanks!
Kurt

I also have the Garmin 4212 installed. The depth sounder is connected to a "black box" which connects to the NMEA 2000 network. The following link has the instructions for installing the P79 inhull transducer. http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/InstallGuide/17-217-01.pdf

Good luck...
