Postby Ismarch » Sun Mar 17, 2019 1:16 pm

Dear Colleges, this is my first time on this forum is my fiirst post, sorry for my english my boat and me arr from spain mediterranen sea.

I’m making a full and deep retrofit to my 36” classic grand banks, remooving all deck in the engine room I had found a pipe coming in to the hull very deep inside the keel.

If somebody can help in the picture In the red circle is the misterious (for me) pipe, as alredy i told before is going thrugh the hull in to the keel. The position is just befor waste tank, between both petrol tanks just at the end of engines.

Thank you, pls be sorry with my poore english!!

That is a vent pipe for the keel which is hollow. It would be good to push a tube down in there & pump out any water that might be in there.

Looks like you have a very dirty bilge. Have fun cleaning it!

Tks FrugalWife for your fast answer!! yes absolutly is dirty.... I will fun a lot.... was more than 7 years stop and abandoned...

another questions:
at the end of the tube it seems that there was once a screw cap,
Do you think it is convenient to put a screw cap again?
Is it necessary to pour some product inside, after having removed the water?

Many thanks
Ramon

Yes, I would put a screw cap on that pipe if only to prevent anything from falling in there. BTW, my boat does not have a pipe into the keel. Note that many other boats have a drain plug in the keel. I think that's a good idea .... no, my boat doesn't have that either!

As far as adding some product into the keel, not sure what you would add or why. Maybe some type of disinfectant to kill bacteria?

Tks for your replay. About filling I was thinking in gliserin or something to prevent de osmosis or rusty, also bacterias.

Really all this is new for me, is my first GB and is no so much information in spain of this type of boats. For me this one is the icon crusing boat!!

Is going clean ...
