The pictures are too small to see the details of the discoloration. Can you remove the trim, clean it up and then re-bed? Using a flare nut wrench gives more control and you don't risk messing up the nut.

You might find some of them breaking with just the head coming out and the body of the screw left in the rail. A bit brace is a big help. A corner bit brace is a bit easier to use sometimes.

I also have a used 0-60 amp meter that I removed when I installed a Xantrex Linklite battery monitor. The Linklite fits directly in the hole and uses a shunt, which in my mind is a much better arrangement. Our 72-32 used direct wired ammeter - no shunt.
If your meter is bad, and looks like the attached, you are welcome to the extra I have.

If is really running at 160 it might not be running hot enough. Attached is the spec sheet from the manual.
