Mechanical system to raise forward-hinged mast

Has anyone come up with a mechanical system to raise and lower a forward-hinged mast on a wood (1972) 42 Classic. Ours was hinged to aft and a simple block and tackle rig to the FB helm made it easy, but I am trying to help someone whose mast is hinged forward and who is getting to the point that wa...

Re: Historic Grand Banks Pictures

Shing, fascinating photo. Hard to imagine how it all started. Looking forward to seeing more at the Rendezvous in May. For those who are considering attending, Shing will be giving a presentation of the history of the early GB years at the Puget Sound GB Rendezvous at Roche Harbor in May. After whic...

I also bought a Marco variable speed and loved it. Was able to get rid of the pressure accumulator tank and gain that room for stowage. Marcos are heavy and seem very robust.

Re: Fuel Tank Removal

Agree with kudos for Vince at American Tank. He did my water tanks and did a wonderful job at a fair price.

Re: Yard for Hull Repainting

Gordon, I have used CSR in the past for JoMeKe. I also most recently (May 2017) used Paul Ziegler of NW Marine Fiberglass. His office is across the street from Canal Boatyard and can do the work in their yard. I really like the management at Canal—Ivaylo Minkov is always very accommodating. I use th...

Re: Repower - Lehmans to Cat 3208?

Bjorn's hours are not unusual for a Lehman that has been well-maintained and properly run. That said, if you are set on a repower, I agree with Jack—stick with an inline 6 to maintain access. Deere is an excellent choice in my opinion.

Re: Holding Tank Not Fully Emptying

Oldersalt, Gordon is exactly right. We had the same issue on our 1988. GB used brass pick-up tubes and fittings in the holding tanks for some unfathomable reason. Replace all the brass fittings with PVC and clean out the tank and you should be fine. Make certain the pick-up tube has about a 45 degre...

Re: Exterior window paint

A few years ago, we stripped ours to bare, coated with an epoxy barrier coat, recaulked and finished with Awlgrip. Loved the results. Hard as a rock and very easy to keep clean.

Re: Joining the GB family

Silvain, It is always great to meet prospective owners and see their excitement in owning one of these great boats. We have loved both of the ones we have owned. But at the risk of raining on your parade, while the decks from the surface look salvageable, my concern would be underneath the teak. Are...

Re: Duplicate Door key

Ken and Jess, Security Solutions in Bellingham has the Legge blanks. They are about the only place in the Puget Sound region we have found that carries them. They are located at the corner of N State St and Franklin St. The retail key shop is across Franklin (on the east side) from the big storefron...
