Replacement water temp sender

Does anyone know if our old GB's use VDO or SW systems. Also does anyone have a brand and part number for the temp sender? I have the tank off the top of the engine. It is a chore to get the nuts tightened ( finally sacrificed a 1/2 inch wrench and wrench and ground it down. BTW, I bought a set of c...

Re: Replacement Door Hardware

Thanks. I had to get Legge lock mechanisms. You are so right. Hard to find. Think I am going to have to bite the bullet and buy Parko.

Thanks for the warning, Tom. No you are not too late. BTW, Brian gave me the same warning which is why he advised the stethascopes.+

Re: cleaning heat exchanger problem maybe solved

Here's an update. Sent heat exchanger out to be pressure tested. Turns out there was a hairline crack in the inlet. I suspect when everything warmed up and higher rpm and with greater water flow it started loosing coolant which explained the coolant in the engine pan. I had assumed that came from th...

Re: IDing stuck injector

I am going to try that, thanks. FYI, Brian Smith told me to use mechanic's stethoscopes and listen to the fuel pipes where they enter the valve cover.

Re: IDing stuck injector

I think the water jacket might diffuse the temp and make it hard to be specific. Interestingly a lot of people have looked but no one has a suggestion. I guess SOP is just to remove them all and send out for pop off tests. With modern fuel injection systems you can block one injector at a time. Gues...

Re: update cleaning heat exchanger problem

When I went to drain the heat exchanger the square headed plug disintegrated! Does anybody have any tips for removing the two bolts? I don't think I can get a socket on the outboard bolt. When I get it off I am going to carefully cut off the other end. If all goes well I will silver solder it back o...

IDing stuck injector

Before backing off the pipes to each injector one by one, I was wondering if anyone had tried using an infrared thermometer to see which cylinder is noit firing. I am assuming that this should be done right after starting a cold engine so the heat of combustion doesn't heat up the entire block.

I had an overheating problem above 1,600 rpm. on the Stbd Ford Lehman.Flow of exhaust water is noticeably less that port engine. Worked through cooling system to heat exchanger. End cap only comes off on the end opposite the zinc. How can I inspect and clean it out without being able to have both en...

Re: Parting out 32 classic woody

Always sad to see a GB die. But I understand. I don't know how far you are going with the parting out. But if available I am desperate for 6 of the parquet floor tiles. Also a drawer with the carved horizontal pull. That is what I really need. Look forward to hear from you. Oliver 42 GB Classic &quo...

Can't loosen bolt on exhaust elbow

I started to take off the end cap/exhaust elbow on my 1971 Lehman in a 42 Classic. Flange on my engine is square. The exhaust pipe curves outboard with a large flange at the end which coulples to another length of pipe which goes into the muffler. I should have taken a picture. I was able to loosen ...
